What break up changed the trajectory of your life?

What break up changed the trajectory of your life?

We see time and again, a musical artist goes through a break up and finds the passion to write again, soaring their career as they bring in number one hits.

A break up forces a change, makes our minds reset and/or floods our emotions. These distinct times in our life can often change the trajectory.

I’m not insinuating this break up has to be from a romantic relationship. While it could be, there are other break ups throughout our lives that can be crucial and may have a far greater influence.

So, which break up changed your trajectory? Was it the loss of someone you loved? Did you break up with your social media? Was it a substantial change in your phone habits? Did you quit smoking or drinking? Was it the ending of a romantic relationship? Did you quit anxiety? Did you break up with fear?

I can personally think of an example for each of those scenarios. But pick one. Pick the most substantial.

Mine would be saying goodbye to the seven-year-old girl I helped take care of for two years.

I challenge you to think about the scenario you picked in detail and think about how it truly changed your life and shaped you. What lessons did you learn from it? How did it propel your life afterward? What changes did you make internally?

These breakups provide us valuable lessons. I didn’t know until losing this little girl how jam packed I had made my life and how badly I needed quiet time and stillness. I didn’t know how stuck I was in the monotony of daily tasks. I didn’t know what love truly was until meeting her, and I didn’t know what loss truly meant until I said goodbye. She forever changed me, and the loss opened my eyes to areas of my life that needed change. It propelled starting new habits and quitting others, and I reevaluated how I spent my time. That loss brought me closer to God and ended my spiritual desert.

So, what breakup changed the trajectory of your life?
